June (& May) 2020 Reading Sum-Up

I spent this Pride month crying over Ronan Lynch and Adam Parrish hbu??

The past couple of months you may have noticed I have not really been around all that much. This is because I have been living in a small little bubble where the only things that matter are work, sleep and The Raven Boys. Yes. June (and May) have literally been a blur of me crying over how perfect Ronan Lynch is and I don’t even care. My boyfriend has not read these books yet, but I’ve quoted them enough that he throws the quotes back at me when I least expect it to see if it’ll make me cry (spoiler: it does. Every. Time. He thinks it’s hilarious).

Anyway, between the two months I read a total of seven books and most of them have been five star reads (Maggie Stiefvater – you are my inspiration honestly). Without further ado, here they are:

The Raven Boys

By Maggie Stiefvater – 5/5 stars

GAAAAAAHHHHHH why did I put this glorious book off for two years?! TWO YEARS!! That’s how long the hardcover copy was sitting on my bookcase collecting dust before I picked it up… It’s now on my all time favourites shelf. If you haven’t read it you’re making a huge mistake!! The writing is flawless. The atmosphere is so beautiful. The characters are so perfectly crafted and realistically flawed. This book is my new religion.

Remember Me

By Chelsea Bobluski – 4/5 stars

Not at all what I was expecting but this beautiful book took my breath away! It was wonderfully written with a haunting atmosphere and intriguing plotline, not to mention the vibrant, well-created cast of characters. It took a subject (reincarnation/romance) that has been done to death and reinvented it!

The Dream Thieves

By Maggie Stiefvater – 4.5/5 stars

Everyone trying to write a sequel – this is how you do it!! I don’t have much more to say about this one aside from how utterly obsessed I now am with Ronan Lynch

Blue Lily, Lily Blue

By Maggie Stiefvater – 5/5 stars

Just when you think it can’t get any better and then it does??? How? How did she do it?! Stiefvater, I bow down to your ability to string a bunch of mundane words together in the most extraordinary of ways. The third instalment of The Raven Cycle had me laughing until I cried and then I just kept crying because of its perfection. The character developments are so well crafted, the atmosphere is just incredible, the plotlines were just taking my breath away – okay sorry, I’m going to cry again, let’s just move on.

The Raven King

By Maggie Stiefvater – 5/5 stars

*cues Ed Sheeran song* OH I’M A MESS RIGHT NOW. INSIDE OUT. I will literally never get over this book. This series! THESE CHARACTERS!! What a tragically mundane conclusion to their search for Glendower. What a fantastically magical, epic beginning of a set of new adventures for these characters! Off into the wilderness of life with you lot. Enjoy yourselves. Think of me every once in a while! I will miss you.

Call Down The Hawk

By Maggie Stiefvater – 4.5/5 stars

*is a blubbering mess over Ronan Lynch that can’t get off the floor* brb while I drown in my own puddle of tears. More perfection. So much perfection. It’s not fair.

Through the Zombie Glass

By Gena Showalter – 3/5 stars

The sequel to Alice in Zombieland. So fantastically, cringingly, perfectly terrible that I keep rereading it despite the dialogue and grammar and spelling issues *embraces my guilty pleasure shamelessly* don’t lie, we all have a terrible book/series we love, this is one of mine. I needed something utterly mind numbing after all that Ronan Lynch and heartache.

May’s Favourite Read

The Raven Boys hands down.

June’s Favourite Read

The Raven King. Hands. Down. I will never be the person I was before reading this book and finishing this series.

Books I’m looking forward to reading next month

I’m hoping to read Chain of Gold!! I bought it when it first came out but have yet to read it and I need something new to cry over that isn’t The Raven Cycle and Ronan Lynch and Shadowhunters are pretty good for that (although let’s be real, I will never get over Ronan Lynch as a character). I’m also hoping to read Bloodwitch and Christine by Stephen King!
