I’ve been in a really weird reading mood the last few months and I feel like I’m finally breaking through it! Something about the fantasy genre is just not capturing my attention lately so I’ve been switching it up with great success. I managed to read six books this month despite being busier than ever and I’m so stoked! Here’s what I read this month:

Sing You Home
By Jodi Picoult – 4.5/5 stars
One of the many things I love about my step mum is that we share a love of books and reading and this one she recommended to me, claiming it was impossible to put down and she was right! I don’t often stray into this genre but when I do you can bet it’s going to be with a Picoult book. This book gave me so many emotions and I think really broke through the reading wall I’ve been battling against lately. Strongly recommend!!

Foul Is Fair
By Hannah Capin – 5/5
Aside from the Raven Cycle, this book has so far been my only other five star read of 2020. Oh how I loved every twisted, dark, gruesome page of this book. Definitely not for the feint of heart and I strongly recommend thinking twice about reading this one if you are sensitive to content such as rape, suicide, murder etc… But if you can stomach it this was a brilliantly written breath of fresh air in the YA Thriller genre!

Who We Were
By B.M. Carroll – 3/5
I didn’t overly enjoy this book. There were far too many characters to keep track of and I thought the plot was a bit ‘eh.’ The best part about it was that it was set in my home town (Sydney) so it was an exciting change to read about places that I was actually familiar with!

The Alchemyst
By Michael Scott – 4/5
I loved this book!! My boyfriend shoved this one down my throat after he read it in under 24 hours and I am so glad he did! It was well-plotted, had great characters and surprising twists and I loved the magic system! I’ve wanted to read this one for a while and now I wish I had the rest of the series to jump into. It was everything I had missed about the YA Fantasy genre!
Midnight Sun
By Stephanie Meyer – 4/5
Oh be still my twilight-loving heart. Oh, Edward. Just… OH. Twelve year old me has been patiently waiting for this book and twenty-five year old me enjoyed every moment of reading it! I didn’t realise I had so many emotions about Twilight still but apparently I do, they’ve just been laying dormant in the deep dark crevices of my soul waiting for this book and now they’ve burst through with a vicious kind of new life and here I go down the dark Twilight hole once again – pray for me.

New Moon
By Stephanie Meyer – 3.5/5
And alas, the end of Midnight Sun had me craving for the Twilight world once again (something I haven’t felt in many many years…) and so I embarked on a full series reread – HELP. I actually enjoyed New Moon a lot more than I remember enjoying it in my younger years. Couldn’t tell you why but there you go. I am fully onboard the Twilight reread!
August’s Favourite Read
It’s a tie between Foul is Fair and Midnight Sun. Foul is Fair was just like nothing I’ve ever read before and I absolutely enjoyed it. Midnight Sun just brought back a whole heap of nostalgia and I couldn’t help but love it – OH EDWARD HOW I’VE MISSED YOU
Books I’m looking forward to reading next month
Obviously the rest of the Twilight series… I’m also hoping to start on the Tomorrow, When the War Began series. I read the first book back in like year 10 and remember having a bit of a love hate relationship with it and my bf just showed up with the legit full series and was like HERE YOU GO HAVE FUN so yeah..
